Held the 3rd weekend every September, Arts in the Alley will be celebrating 38 years of being one of Central Ohio’s longest running music and arts festival. Its name comes from its beginnings virtually in the “alley” behind the businesses on Broadway and Park Streets where Artists and Crafters sold their work.
Arts in the Alley is now on Broadway and Park Streets. Tents are set up on Broadway to accommodate juried Artists and Crafters from Grove City Road to Grant, and Artists and Crafters who supply their own tents are located East on Park Street to the Library and West on Park Street past City Hall. Saturday Arts in the Alley opens at 10:00 a.m. and closes at 8:00 p.m. Sunday hours are 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Music and entertainment is provided both Saturday and Sunday on the Heartland Stage located on West Park Street. There is also no shortage of food concessions located on East Park Street and scattered on Broadway and West Park Street. Funnel Cakes, Fish Sandwiches, Grilled/Fried Bologna Sandwiches, Chicken and Noodles, Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, Lemonade Shake-ups, Sno-Cones, Popcorn, Pizza, Ice Cream, Smoothies and more. All provided by our local non-profit organizations and churches.
Check Out What’s NEW for 2017:
- We have some exciting new features for this year. Arts in the Alley will be introducing a “Community Mural” Tent, complete with a large canvas, paints, etc., where all event visitors will be offered the opportunity to add their artistic touch to a “Community Mural”.
- A Demonstration Tent will be available for artists and crafters to schedule a time to give instruction/demonstrations of their work. You may have the opportunity to complete a small project designed by the artist, or learn about techniques for your own artistic or crafters spirit. On Sunday the tent will be used for small antique appraisals.
- Returning to The Fine Arts Show are the Amateur and Professional Divisions! Each will be judged and awards made based on their level of ability. Amateurs may still enter the Professional Division, but Professionals cannot enter the Amateur Division.
Arts in the Alley Community Parade
The Grove City Area Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Grove City Girls’ Club is again sponsoring the Arts in the Alley / Community Parade. The parade starts at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at Southwest Boulevard and Broadway. Our Parade Marshal this year is Bill Plank, Owner of Plank’s on Broadway. The theme is “Spirit of the Community.”
The Arts in the Alley Parade will have over 125 entries featuring floats, antique cars, horses, representing businesses, elected officials, club officers, teams, various entertainers, churches and more. Parade entries will have the option of having recorded or live music on board. Attendees of the parade will also have the benefit of collecting candy and other treats that float owners may hand out. The Shriners will also have a unit in the parade.
The parade will begin at Southwest Blvd and Broadway, travels south down Broadway, East on Columbus St, South on Wilbur, and ends at Park St. Intermediate School.
Multiple Award-Winning Art Shows
This year’s festival will feature more than 100 juried artist and crafter booths and many other artists will have their works on display at various Town Center sites. Each of the shows will feature a People’s Choice Award which allows visitors to vote for their favorite entry. On Sunday the People’s Choice winner will be announced at the Heartland Stage at 3:00 p.m., so stop by and see if your favorite won.
This year will also feature a $2,000 purchase prize and Easel Award for the best piece of art related to Grove City! Find out more here: Easel Award Information
